A new year is here, and we want you to start the new year right by answering all your COVID-19 testing, masking, and vaccine questions for 2022.

Who is eligible for a booster?

Everyone 12 years and older is eligible for a booster shot.

If you got the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and are 12 years and older, you are eligible for a booster shot 5 months after completing your COVID-19 vaccination series. Adults can choose between the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna booster while teens 12-17 may only get the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine booster.

If you got the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and are 18 years and older, you are eligible for a booster shot 5 months after completing your COVID-19 vaccination series. Adults can choose between the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna booster.

If you got the Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine and are 18 years and older, you are eligible for a booster shot 2 months after your COVID-19 vaccination series. Adults are encouraged to choose between the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna booster.

Do I need a booster?

The CDC has referenced data that suggests that while COVID-19 vaccines have been effective at preventing severe illness, this protection is reduced over time. With new variants like Omicron arising, vaccines and boosters continue to be our best defense against COVID-19 since they help us boost our immune response. Visit the CDC Website to learn more.

How can I get a free at-home COVID-19 test?

You can now order 4 free at-home COVID-19 tests per residential address through COVIDtests.gov. These rapid antigen at-home tests are easy to carry and deliver results within 30 minutes. Shipping takes about 7-12 days. Call 1-800-232-0233 (TTY 1-888-720-7489) if you need assistance with placing your order.

County of San Mateo continues to provide COVID-19 testing sites as well. Visit their testing page to find your nearest county-sponsored testing location.

How can I get free n95 masks?

The federal government is distributing up to 3 free n95 masks per person through pharmacies and health centers. Check out the CDC website for a list of participating local pharmacies and stores.

Masks continue to be important in our fight against COVID-19. The California Department of Public Health is requiring the use of masks in indoor public settings, regardless of vaccination status, until February 15, 2022. Click here to learn more.
