Healthy Schools Initiative

In 2021-22, the HSI program served more than 30,000 K-12 students in our eight local districts. Funding in these districts helped cover free resources for parents and community education, substance use and suicide prevention programs, and educator trainings on critical topics to support students. Alongside our HSI program, over half a million dollars ($539,000) was awarded in HSI grants to 22 non-profits helping provide a wide array of critical services in our local districts including mental health and animal-assisted support. 75th anniversary

Our 75th anniversary continued into 2022. In celebration of this major milestone, we held a temporary exhibit at the San Mateo History Museum titled Sequoia Healthcare District Then & Now. The exhibit ran from April 2022 through the end of August. It walked visitors through our long-standing history with the community beginning in 1946 to the present day. SHD is proud to continue to be a key community funder, collaborator, and catalyst for local health and wellness programs and services. For more information go to seqhd.org.

  • April 30th Speaker Panel
    • In conjunction with the museum exhibit, we held a speaker panel event on April 30th with former Sequoia Hospital CEO and former District Board member Art Faro, current Sequoia Hospital CEO Bill Graham and Sequoia Healthcare District CEO Pamela Kurtzman. Thank you to everyone who came out to hear stories of Sequoia Healthcare District and Sequoia Hospitals’ past shared history and the current and future of the healthcare district and the hospital.
  • May 21st Health Fair
    • On May 21st 2022, we held our first annual Health Fair on the Square in honor of our 75th anniversary building a healthier community. Over 300 attendees joined us for a fun-packed day filled with activities for all ages, live music from ABC7 News Anchorman’s Dan Ashley Band, over 70 local community resource booths, and so much more. Check out our Health Fair on the Square page to learn more.

Partnerships

We are thrilled to continue fostering partnerships with local community organizations. We would like to highlight specifically our new collaboration with American Red Cross offering Hands-only CPR and Be Ready classes to the public. Check out our Events & Resources page for upcoming classes. Additionally, our Holiday Food Grant program in partnership with Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital returned for its second year.
