7 Holiday Health and Safety Tips

May contain: leaf, plant, tree, sunlight, and maple

As the leaves transition from green to shades of yellow, orange, and red, we are reminded that the holidays are fast approaching. Family and friends will soon be safely gathering to celebrate thanks to the COVID-19 vaccines. Therefore, we have carefully crafted a list of health and safety tips to help you make the most out of this holiday season:

  1. Wash your hands
Wash your hands often. Use soap and water and rinse for at least 20 seconds to prevent the spread of germs.
  2. Get your vaccines
The most secure way to get together this fall/winter is to get your annual flu shot and COVID-19 vaccine. If you have not yet gotten your vaccines, contact your health provider or visit the SMC Health website to learn more and make an appointment today.
  3. Stay warm and dry
As the cold air sets in, wear appropriate outdoor attire such as sweaters, jackets, and waterproof shoes so you can stay warm and dry during the changing seasons.
  4. Stay Active
Exercise for at least 30 minutes every day or 2 ½ hours a week. Consistency is key so make a backup plan if the weather interrupts any outdoor activities.
  5. Eat healthy, balanced meals
Eat meals that incorporate the 5 main food groups and limit foods high in fat, salt, and sugar.
  6. Fire Safety
Electricity is a hot commodity during the fall and winter months. Limit your electricity use during peak times and unplug power outlets when not in use to help prevent a fire.
  7. Practice Wellness
The holidays can be an especially stressful time. Take a break if you begin to feel overwhelmed and reach out for support. Connect with family and friends or search for resources on Sequoia Strong.
