Sequoia Healthcare District has launched a new and improved service for residents called Sequoia Strong™ (formerly 70 Strong), an online, personal directory to healthy living for all ages including Children, Teens, Adults, and Adults 50+. The Adults 50+ portion of the directory launched on July 23, 2019, and resources for Children, Teens, and Adults will launch in October 2019.

All resources in the directory are personally recommended by Sequoia Healthcare District for District residents, and most resources are free or low-cost. The directory includes both enrichment activities (such as fitness classes, volunteer opportunities, and social groups), as well as basic needs (including free and low-cost health care, senior transportation, and food services).

Pamela Kurtzman, CEO of Sequoia Healthcare District explains, “the directory began in 2016 as 70 Strong, a directory for older adults, and was so successful and well utilized that we recognized a need to expand to benefit all ages.”

In addition to the directory, Sequoia Strong™ keeps residents up to date on Community Events and is home to the hottest health blog in the District, featuring topics like What You Need to Know About E-Cigarettes and Vaping, Stretching Isn’t Just for the Younger Generation, and Boost Your Brain Power!

Cat Bottini, Manager of Sequoia Strong™ explains, “Sequoia Strong™ brings our local community resources, activities, and organizations together in one place where residents can find what they need to live healthy, fulfilled lives at every age. This vision aligns with the local and global Age-Friendly Cities movement.”

Indeed, the World Health Organization launched a global movement to designate cities as “age-friendly” if they meet certain criteria. An “age-friendly” city is friendly to everyone and there are wide-ranging benefits. With Sequoia Strong™ in place, cities in the Sequoia Healthcare District (southern San Mateo County) are closer to being not only age friendly, but overall health friendly.
